The project demonstrates systematically that in the first half of the 20th century the literary reception of antiquity and the Bible are contrary constellations of one and the same cultural field. Intellectuals position themselves therein against each other in the name of antique or biblical myths, and dispute about the legitimicy of modernity in a debate which as yet remains to be unresolved.
