Electrochemical machining with continuous electrolytic free jet for the generation of micro geometries in steel materials

In electrochemical machining (ECM) an anodic dissolution of electrical conductive material causes a specific change of the work piece geometry, where usually metallic materials are machined.In this study the transferability of jet-EC machining of flat surfaces, which was the outcome of the previous funding period, onto rotationally symmetric work-piece geometries shall be examined. In addition to the transferability of machining planar surfaces, the impact of higher relative speeds between the nozzle and the work-piece on the machining result shall be analyzed. Since the relative speed can be increased to several folds applying a rotary motion, a significant reduction in roughness is aspired according to the analyses in machining planar surfaces.At first, the geometry of single removals shall be analyzed by help of systematic experiments in Jet-EC profile turning under the variation of suitable process input parameters. Afterwards, systematic experiments in Jet-EC cylindrical turning shall be performed by varying the degree of interaction of the single removals. Thereby the influence on the removal geometry is analyzed based on the studies in machining planar surfaces.
