The library of the Ibero-American Institute, Prussian Heritage Foundation (IAI) owns - with 1.7 million volumes - the second largest special collection on Latin America and the Caribbean worldwide. As a non-university institution, the library functions primarily as knowledge archive for researchers from Germany, Europe and other regions of the world. The library's collections include publications from the humanities and social sciences, law, geography, ecology as well as publications from different fields of the applied sciences related to Latin America and allow inter- and transdisciplinary research. With the continuation of the project, the library of the IAI will improve its information service considerably and cover perfectly the current needs of researchers. The growing demand for Latin American cultural magazines from around 1900 as interdisciplinary source of research will be met with the acquisition of still missing serial issues and the digitization of the magazines.
