This research project aims to reduce the duration of processing orders by analyzing manufacturing processes to give an early assessment of the necessary effort to manufacture pressure die casting moulds. Therefore a method is developed and validated to use geometrical information of the casting part for prototyping a mould and calculating the corresponding time to manufacture. This method references technological, organizational and process-related factors to assess the effort of production. Additionally this method is integrated in the earliest phase of an order, i.e. the bid-generation. By that, inaccurate estimations about the effort can be prevented and the time spent on construction and planning can be shortened. Furthermore the individual customer relationship can be enhanced by enabling a transparent calculation of manufacturing costs. Research within the original project - Integrated Assessing of Technologies and Manufacturing Processes - has given the conclusion that the tool and mould making industry would benefit from such an early assessment of manufacturing processes. Hence the developed approaches for analysis should be customized and supplemented to be applied and integrated to the manufacturing of pressure die casting moulds.
