Project Details
Elastic control of magnetic order at oxide interfaces (A09)
Subject Area
Experimental Condensed Matter Physics
Term
from 2013 to 2019
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 31047526
The project aims at revealing magnetic ordering and coupling phenomena at coherent interfaces between transition metal oxides, specifically the elastic strain control of such phenomena. Coherent films with well-defined termination of interfaces will be prepared by pulsed laser deposition. We utilize strain and temperature controlled magnetic force microscopy (100-400 K, reversible biaxial strain of 0.15%) to observe local magnetic domain coupling, e. g., in La0.7Sr0.3MnO3/SrRuO3 and CoFe2O4/BiFeO3. The first system shows unusually strong antiferromagnetic coupling, the second strain- and exchange-bias-driven magnetoelectric coupling.
