Development of an calculation concept for form profiled shaft and hub connections with hypotrochoidal contours

Subject Area Engineering Design, Machine Elements, Product Development
Term from 2013 to 2020
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 236042475

Based on the results of the forward research project, the main objective of this project is an interactive concept for selecting and designing hypocycloidal polygonal shaft-hub-connections under torsional and/or bending loading. This is a basic requirement for the practical use of polygonal shaft-hub-connections. The design concept has to take the influences of dimensional and form deviation as a result of manufacturing into consideration. The experimental results provide the required notch effect and the permissible torque load. In addition, the test results are used for calibration of the calculations of slip, strain and stress. A new standardisation is planned based on all results and testing time of the new concept for selecting and designing polygonal shaft-hub-connections . This should replace the actual German standard DIN 32711.Due to the increasing complexity of the components, the calculation of fatigue strength is given to an assessment using local stresses. This is based on the large geometric variety of the polygonal connections. To realize an assessment using local stresses, a possible calculation model or stress hypothesis should be selected and tested.
