Project Details
The actin cytoskeleton as a central determinant of synaptic plasticity (A02+)
Subject Area
Molecular Biology and Physiology of Neurons and Glial Cells
Term
from 2013 to 2017
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 227953431
This project will address the function of Cyfip2, originally identified as a protein interacting with Fragile-X Mental Retardation Protein. Cyfip2 is a component of the WAVE-complex, which is important for regulation of actin polymerization. Cyfip isoforms have been linked to autism spectrum disorder, schizophrenia and Alzheimer's disease. The project ranges from the molecular function of Cyfip within neuronal signalling pathways to its function in regulating specific synaptic circuits, and its role in mouse models of Alzheimer's disease.
