Zusammenfassung der Projektergebnisse

Diamond/β-SiC composite films are one film system that was designed to possess a whole range of combined advantages over individual diamond or β-SiC films with respect to numerous applications. By carefully controlling the diamond/β-SiC phase structure in the composite film, the general obstacles (i.e. poor film adhesion, low fracture toughness, low wear resistance etc.) of tribological diamond coatings can potentially be overcome. Within the current project, significant advances in controlling the CVD based process technology that is utilized to synthesize the material have been achieved. Based on these it was possible to grow alternating diamond/ß-SiC film structures that showed promising potential with respect to advanced tribological applications due to their improved adhesion as well as fracture toughness. Additionally, the insight gained into the details of the correlation between process parameters and film growth allowed for the preparation of novel 3-dimensional 3C-SiC/graphene hybrid nanolaminate films, which displayed a remarkable performance with respect to supercapacitor applications. The latter represents one of the doors opening into a new field of applications, which we hoped for by embarking on this voyage.
