The functions of EFhd1 and EFhd2 during checkpoints of early and terminal B cell differentiation (03+)

Subject Area Immunology
Term from 2013 to 2021
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 215346292

Peripheral B cell selection is key to specific immunity and involves tight control of B cell receptor (BCR) and co-stimulatory signals. Project 03 could demonstrate that Swiprosin-1/EFhd2 is a cytoskeleton protein which controls B cell spreading and migration. Furthermore, a direct role of EFHd2 in type 2 immunity was demonstrated by KO mouse models. EFhd1 is mainly expressed in pro-B cells and in plasma cells within the B cell lineage. The physiological role of EFhd1 will be analysed with a conditional mouse model. Because EFhd1 has been found to be associated with mitochondria, the mitochondrial respiratory chain will be analysed in EFhd1-/- pro-B cells.
