Final Report Abstract

We have established a number of new selective polymers for SWCNT dispersion in polar solvents among them useful acid cleavable systems which can solubilize large amounts of sc-SWCNTs from carbon nanotube raw materials. These open up the possibility for two-step (enhanced selectivity) extraction schemes. Conceivably, careful room temperature O-atom treatment and vacuum annealing of such samples after (i) acid cleavage of the polymer and (ii) liquid phase purification by multiple solvent extractions stages to remove resulting monomers offers a route to achieve high purity SWCNT samples for nanoelectronics applications. This remains to be explored.
