Hybrid photonic crystals - Co-assembly of conjugated polymer particles in a Perovskite Matrix

Subject Area Preparatory and Physical Chemistry of Polymers
Polymer Materials
Term from 2014 to 2020
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 245209314

A new approach for hybrid inorganic/organic photonics, based on conjugated polymer particles assembled in a Perovskite matrix, is proposed. Monodisperse conjugated polymer particles and their assembly in a dielectric matrix have been developed in a previous project (KU 2738/3-1). This follow-up project focusses on the colloidal self-assembly of these particles inside of a semi-conducting Perovskite matrix. The respective absorption and emission bands of the components will be aligned in such a way, that the resulting structure allows for optical pumping of the Perovskite, followed by an energy transfer to the assembled conjugated polymer photonic crystal resulting in laser emission from the organic component. We will investigate the cascaded energy transfer mechanism from the inorganic to the organic material. This knowledge will present an important step towards realizing the transition from optically pumped organic laser towards strategies for electrical pumping.
