TFB 64:  Management, Products, Processes and Technologies for practical product and material cycles

Subject Area Mechanical and Industrial Engineering
Term from 2006 to 2008
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 24633448

Since 1995, researchers of the Technical University Berlin are developing and teaching under the umbrella of the Collaborative Research Center 281 "Disassembly Factories for the Recovery of Resources in Product and Material Cycles" as well as in the Transfer Unit 39 "Components, Systems, Methods, and Information Technology for practical Product and Material Cycles". Goal is the increase of use-productivity - more use with fewer resources - in order to contribute to sustainability. This goal can be achieved easier by technological development with market competition in the framework of cycle economical legislation. The collected results form the basis of this Transfer Unit 64 consisting of the transfer projects E8 to E13: For the transfer project E8 "Planning of a Remanufacturing System for LCD Flat Screen Monitors", methods and tools for the economical evaluation of remanufacturing opportunities, for the remanufacturing sequence planning, for the equipment planning and design as well as for the development reuse friendly, modular product structures were developed. They will be applied and tested in a concrete industrial application example. Goal of the transfer project E9 "Life Time Estimation of Motor Control Electronics by Life Cycle Units" is the application of micro systems for the acquisition of components' conditions and load-dependent maintenance for control electronics. Goal of the transfer project E10 "Realisation of a Flexible and Hybrid Remanufacturing System for Components in the Automotive Sector" is the planning and development of a flexible remanufacturing system in order to ease the reuse of turn converters, turbochargers or bigger modules like engines or drives. Goal of the transfer project E11 "Blasting Wheel with Dry Ice as Blasting Media" is the development of a blasting wheel device for industrial application using dry ice as blasting media. Pollution and surface coatings are removed by means of a sublimation effect when the blasting media is impinged on the product's surface. Aspects of work safety are considered to a high degree. Goal of the transfer project E12 "Water Abrasive Cutting Head for Processing Composite Materials" is the development of a cutting head for industrial application, able to cut composite materials. Goal of the transfer project E13 "Hybrid Cryo-Disassembly Tool" is the development of a hybrid cryo-disassembly tool for e.g. decollation of screw or rivet joinings for industrial application.
