Reference Corpus of German Inscriptions

The project processes German inscriptions for linguistic analyses which have been collected and partly already digitised within the Akademienprojekt 'Deutsche Inschriften (DI)'; those inscriptions which have not been already digitised will be digitised previously. Such processed material will be available online for further linguistic analyses. The data will be processed utilizing HiTS, an STTS-related annotation standard used by historical reference corpora, and transferred to the XML standoff format PAULA (Potsdamer Austauschformat für linguistische Annotationen). They are therefore available via the linguistic data base ANNIS (http://www.sfb632.uni-potsdam.de/annis/) as a complement to the reference corpora already developed. The data will be made available online additionally via DIO (www.inschriften.net/). As the duration of the Akademienprojekt 'Deutsche Inschriften (DI)' has already been set until 2030, the medium and long term security and maintenance of the material are therefore secured.The project thus augments several reference corpora and their already well advanced projects by a text type which had previously received little linguistic attention. For optimization, it will be simultaneously integrated in an already existing automatic program for localisation (and dating) of historical manuscripts. Additionally, it will be a basis for a comparable tool that offers opportunities to locate High German texts.
