Subject Area Palaeontology
Term from 2013 to 2017
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 249493840

This proposal aims at completing ongoing work in subproject B3 of the Research Unit Riftlink and to finance a third year for two PhD students already in charge of the project since 11/2011. This project started in 2006 and since then, in total 8 field campaigns took place in western Uganda. First, the project was run by the Postdoc student who quitted the project in 2010. This lead to a break of activities before two PhD students could be engaged to replace the Postdoc and continue with specific aspects of the project which have not been completed by the Postdoc. Because of this special situation, only 2 years funding remained for the PhD students. They spent two long field campaigns in 2012 and both already prepared a first draft of their field and laboratory results, proofing their excellent work progress within only 1.5 years, when they stepped into the project. The following description of the proposal is restricted to the specific aspects to complement the two PhD theses. More general information together with additional literature can be retrieved from the former proposal, the working report and the submitted manuscripts.
