Analysis of the failure behaviour of fibre reinforced nanocomposites

Subject Area Lightweight Construction, Textile Technology
Term from 2014 to 2020
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 232311024

Especially the shrinkage of nanocomposites and fiber-reinforced nanocomposites (FRNC) are to be investigated and simulated in the second funding period of subproject 5. For this purpose the shrinkage is examined experimentally as a function of the particle weight fraction, the chemical surface modification and the dispersion quality. Analogous to the first funding period special attention is paid to the particle-matrix interphase and the creation of knowledge about their mode of action. Furthermore, the mechanical properties of nanocomposites and FRNC are to be examined experimentally depending on the temperature. The experimental data is used for validation and calibration of the simulation models, which are intended to reproduce the thermal-mechanical properties and the shrinkage. In addition, detailed investigation of the cracking characteristics of the nanocomposites and the FRNC are planned to characterize the particle- induced complex damage mechanisms.
