Project Details
Long non-coding RNAs as regulators of endothelial cell function (B09)
Subject Area
Cardiology, Angiology
Term
from 2014 to 2021
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 75732319
Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have gained considerable recognition as RNA-based mediator of key cellular mechanisms. We aim to determine the role of a selected set of lncRNAs in endothelial cell function. We have shown that the lncRNAs MALAT1 and H19 are regulated by fluid shear stress and are required for proper endothelial cell proliferation. In this funding period, we plan to thoroughly study the role of the shear stress-regulated lncRNAs linc00520 (Lassie) and linc01013. Furthermore, we will assess the hypothesis that RNA molecules are involved in endothelial cell junctions and shear stress sensing.
