spin transport and spin filtering in superconductor nanostructures

Subject Area Experimental Condensed Matter Physics
Term from 2014 to 2019
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 257644405

Superconductors are promising candidates for the investigation of spintronics functionality due to the ability to create highly spin-polarized quasiparticle currents and spin-polarized triplet supercurrents, as well as the separation of spin and charge degrees of freedom. The goal of the project is to investigate the creation and manipulation of pure chargeless spin currents by spin-filtering in hybrid structures made of superconductors and ferromagnetic insulators. We plan to implement a new type of superconducting spin-valve based on spin-splitting in the superconductor, which could be useful as a building block for future superconducting spintronics devices.
