This application is seeking support for an advanced instrumentation system aimed at microscopic investigation of light-matter interaction on the femtosecond timescales. Specifically, the system will be used to address Iaser cooling cycle in bulk and reduced dimensionality semiconductors, focusing on individual quantum dots. Experimental access to magnetic field and cryogenic temperatures is essential for understanding of the quantum many-body interactions that govern the Iaser cooling process. The proposed system is a state-of-the-art research instrument comprised from carefully-selected commercially-available and customized components, when put together in a unique combination, offering unprecedented specifications for the most demanding applications. The system is specifically designed around the concepts of i) simultaneous access to stably-controlled yet extreme parameter spaces and ii) short and long-term stability for ultrasensitive multi-instrument detection of ultrafast phenomena at interest. With these considerations, extensive market research was carried out to obtain the best suitable equipment at the time of this proposal. Additionally, through close work with one of the state-of-the-art manufacturers of the optical magnetic cryomicroscope, a novel system was designed with exceptional specifications for the proposed tasks.
