Landslide Database for the Federal Republic of Germany - a Tool for Process and Landslide Impact Research and Web-based Knowledge Transfer

Subject Area Physical Geography
Term from 2014 to 2020
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 258985942

The topics of this research project are the development of a landslide database for the Federal Republic of Germany, the differentiated data analysis with the objective to investigate current and historical mass movements on a nationwide scale, and the knowledge transfer of the research findings. The creation of the database is carried out by systematic data collection, integration of own pre-existing data inventories, and data acquisition via research cooperations. Based on the improvement of data retrieval approaches and the optimization of techniques for data extraction geoscientific, economic, planning-related, judicial and technical landslide data is collected area-wide. The data storage is organized in a PostgreSQL/Post GIS geodatabase system. The focus of the data analysis is on the spatio-temporal occurrence of mass movements as well as their processes and causative factors. Main aspects are furthermore the investigation of climate effects and the influence of climate variations as well as land use and landslide impact analysis. In this context, methods from the fields of GIS analysis and geostatistics are primarily used. The knowledge transfer is realized by the development and the operation of a WebGIS platform, which enables the communication of target-group tailored research results.
