The kinase-coupled TRPM7 channel as a regulator of immune system homeostasis (P14)

Subject Area Pharmacology
Term since 2014
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 239283807

TRPM7 is essential for immune system homeostasis. We found that its enzymatic activity is required for homing of lymphocytes to the gut and pro-inflammatory T-helper-17 cell differentiation. Here, we will test whether the TRPM7 kinase affects the homeostasis of resident leukocytes in the lung as well as their recruitment upon acute infection. We will assess the effect of kinase inhibition on leukocyte infiltration in in vivo models of pneumonia. Moreover, we will employ artificial intelligence in our screen for new TRPM7 kinase inhibitors. This will further highlight TRPM7 as potential therapeutic target for the treatment of inflammatory diseases.
