Project Details
X-ray spectroscopy: Electronic degrees of freedom and their excitations (C06)
Subject Area
Experimental Condensed Matter Physics
Term
since 2015
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 247310070
The objective of this project is to identify the active degrees of freedom as well as their interactions in novel frustrated magnets. The material basis will include not only 5d and 4d transition-metal compounds but also several 3d transition-metal systems which have been recently proposed as candidates for novel quantum spin liquids. Special attention will be paid to the complex interactions between lattice, spins and orbitals. To this end, cutting-edge x-ray spectroscopy and scattering experiments at synchrotron light sources will be performed as a function of temperature, applied magnetic field and hydrostatic pressure.
