Final Report Abstract

Altogether, the measures offered by the education project "The tumor microenvironment: Cross-talk between cancer cells and non-malignant cells" increased the level of awareness of the high impact of basic scientific questions in medicine among the students and young graduates (of both natural sciences, and medicine), thereby encouraging a new generation of scientists engaged in life sciences in general and cancer research in particular. In conclusion, the implementation of this Research Training Group and the funds offered made it possible to offer PhD students a clear benefit and an added value which was highly appreciated. Students who did not yet finish their projects within the field of the Tumor Microenvironment during the SFB832 funding period took benefit from the already established structures and measures provided by this project, which supported these doctoral candidates with an internationally high professional level of education. One important suggestion still raised by many PhD students was related to a better and more substantiated education and information related to career development both in academic science or/and in industry.
