(Cell type-selective carriers for targeted pharmacological inhibition of Rho-/actin-dependent leukocyte recruitment into the alveolar space after blunt chest trauma) focuses on strategies to selectively modulate recruitment and function of both macrophages and neutrophils in the alveolar space. The project builds on the discovery of monocyte/macrophage-selective carriers (C3botE174Q) to transfer Rho-, actin-, and CXCR2-inhibitors into the cells. Neutrophil-selective transporters with similar therapeutic options will be developed and their effects on the inflammatory response determined in a murine thorax trauma model. Furthermore, targeted delivery of contrast agents will enable lifetime monitoring of cell migration by MRI.
