The research training group "European integration and societal change" aims at analysing on the one hand political, economic and social processes of integration at European level and, on the other, ensuing political,socio-economic and cultural structural changes at the level of memberstates and regions of Europe. Special emphasis is placed on thereciprocity between these two processes. The central question of research is divided into two overlapping topics:First, in which way and with regard to which issues/tasks emerges anddevelops the concentration of power of decision-making and regulation at European level and what are the forms and structures ofsystem-development and policy-making?Second, in how far, in which way and in relation to which fields dothese processes give rise to fundamental political, economic, social and cultural transformations in the member states or regions of the EU, and what is the impact on European integration?
