GRK 448:  Modern magnetic resonance type methods in materials science

Subject Area Chemical Solid State and Surface Research
Condensed Matter Physics
Term from 1998 to 2007
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 272477

The technical progress in electronic equipment, the revolution in the numerical treatment of large amounts of data and new possibilities in the construction of more and more powerful magnets have led to an enormous evolution in the potential of magnetic resonance type methods for the investigation of structure and dynamics of matter. In view of the increased complexity in this field we have defined the following goals for our program:-- Teaching: Instruction of the basics of a wide spectrum of modern magnetic resonance type methods and of their application.-- Research: Solving fundamental questions as well as real problems in materials science by application of the most suitable among the various magnetic resonance type techniques, supported by theoretical methods and by alternative experimental techniques.-- Methodology: Solving problems in teams and gaining additional motivation via interdisciplinary cooperation and by exposition to experts on an international level.
