The aim of the proposed work is the realization of high-speed wireless data transmission from a compact, mechanically flexible and electromagnetically adaptive module comprising: (i) a mechanically flexible image sensor generating large amount of data which require high-speed transmission, (ii) a mechanically flexible silicon CMOS integrated circuit for data processing and wireless data transmission at frequency around 5.5 GHz, (iii) a mechanically flexible and adaptive antenna. Besides supporting mechanical flexibility, the adaptivity of the antenna, which is supported and controlled by the flexible radio frequency transmitter circuit, adapts the module to varying electromagnetic environment, such as a dielectric body of low or high permittivity or a metallic surface where the module attaches. A particular focus will be set on overall system energy efficiency in view of suitability of a future, battery-powered, implementation. The enabling functionality of the proposed flexible and adaptive module will span its applicability over wireless sensor network / IoT application areas as various as medicine, logistics, sensing.
