The proposed research focuses on the simulation of organic high-frequency electronic devices such as organic Schottky diodes and organic thin film transistors fabricated on flexible substrates. We will develop a series of modelling and simulation tools which will describe the charge carrier transport and will allow us to predict high frequency behaviour and limitations of these devices. We aim to extend the physical modelling from a device level to mixed-mode and finally circuit level using state-of-the-art simulators. The extraction of compact models for organic devices will also al-low us to perform complex RF simulations of entire RF building blocks. We will furthermore be able to provide physically based compact models to groups involved in circuit simulation of complete electronic components. the impact of mechanical stress, characteristic for flexible bendable substrates, on the electrical properties of the circuits will be analysed. Thus, the proposed theoretical activity is intended to provide design rules and guidelines for the fabrication of HF organic devices and circuits. Analysis of key parameters like device geometry, thickness of organic layers, substrate choice, contacts etc. and their impact on the RF performance of the devices will be carried out, thus reducing the learning curve. We will concentrate on two classes of active materials, namely conductive polymers and percolating networks. A comparative analysis of the device performance for different materials of the two classes will be performed.
