Förderung Förderung in 2015
Projektkennung Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Projektnummer 275347340

At the Institute for lnorganic Chemistry, a high-resolution mass spectrometer with a wide range of ionisation methods (ES I, HPLC-ESI, APCI, ASAP, LIDFI) is to be installed to satisfy the diverse analytical requirements of the eight research groups now active. An expansion of the analytical facilities is urgently needed as the research focus of the institute has significantly broadened within the last 4-5 years with the appointment of five new faculty members and two junior research groups, leading to a concomitant increase in staff members (doctoral students, postdocs, and permanent research staff) from about 70 to over 120. Currently, mass spectrometric analysis available in-house is limited to GC/MS, which does not match the requirements of many researchers for mild ionisation methods such as electrospray or field desorption. Furthermore, these Singlequadrupole instruments with unit mass resolution do not allow determination of exact masses and assignment of sum formulas. Other mass spectrometers installed elsewhere in the faculty are fully occupied by their respective owners and thus not available for shared use. Therefore, the expansion of the mass spectrometric facilities at the Institute for lnorganic Chemistry is urgently required to serve the analytical needs of a significantly increased number of researchers which rely on a diverse spectrum of ionisation methods.
