We recently developed a Lorentz covariant quark model which in the light quark sector is consistent with the baryon sector of Chiral Perturbation Theory and in the heavy quark sector with Heavy Quark Effective Theory. The derived approach contains the main aspects of baryon structure at low and intermediate energies: hadronization, confinement and chiral symmetry. The internal quark structure of baryons is modelled by using baryonic three-quark currents constrained by QCD sum rules and covariant baryonic wave functions. In addition to the valence quark degrees of freedom we include the sea-quark effects which are parametrized by a cloud of pseudoscalar fields as dictated by chiral symmetry. In the proposed project we intend to conduct a comprehensive theoretical study of low-energy properties of light and heavy baryons which is closely related to experimental work at world-wide hadron facilities: electromagnetic and weak structure of light baryons, exclusive heavy baryon decays, rare baryon decays and physics beyond the Standard Mode.
