Mechanisms of organic reactions in complex environments and confined volumes elucidated by laser desorption mass and ion mobility spectrometry

Subject Area Analytical Chemistry
Physical Chemistry of Molecules, Liquids and Interfaces, Biophysical Chemistry
Term from 2015 to 2023
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 251124697

The aim of the project is to measure complex reactions online and to analyze the results with quantum theory in order to unravel the underlying mechanisms. A special focus of the project is organic reactions in microdroplets and thin films and we aim at an in depth investigation of reaction acceleration in confined volumes, that has been recently discovered. We employ IR desorption mass and ion mobility spectrometry and various microjet and microdroplet technologies in combination with quantum theory. These unique tools will enable us to investigate complex reactions and reaction rate acceleration factors in confined volumes, i.e. aqueous or non-aqueous micron sized droplets and thin films.
