Project Details
Amplification of NET formation and neutrophil aggregation for the resolution of inflammation (C03)
Subject Area
Clinical Immunology and Allergology
Term
from 2015 to 2023
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 261193037
Project C03 (Herrmann/Hoffmann) leverages on the finding that aggregated neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) contribute to resolution of inflammation by their capacity to degrade cytokines and chemokines. Based on the preliminary data obtained during the first funding period C03 will characterize the glycosidase activity in NETs, which modulates immunoglobulin-function and, apart from cytokine/chemokine cleavage, is presumably responsible for the resolution of inflammation by NETs. Furthermore, a pharmacological approach will be developed that allows amplification of reactive oxygen species (ROS) production by neutrophils and, in consequence, the formation of aggregated NET that induce resolution of inflammation.
