Project Details
Mechanistic studies of oxidative DNA demethylation and novel photoswitchable peptides for biological applications (A11*)
Subject Area
Biological and Biomimetic Chemistry
Term
from 2015 to 2019
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 27112786
In this project, we plan to pursue studies (i) on the mechanism of the oxidative enzymatic demethylation of DNA and (ii) the development of novel photoswitchable peptides for biological applications. Therefore, we will synthesize specifically fluorinated nucleosides of the novel epigenetic bases 5mC, 5hmC, 5fC and 5caC and incorporate them into short DNA fragments as probes for investigations on the mechanism of DNA demethylation by TET enzymes. Besides, we will develop photoswitchable azobenzene-based derivatives of INF fusion peptides and of the atrial natriuretic peptide ANF.
