"International Journal of Economic Micro Data" (IJEMD) - an innovative Information Infrastructure for the Publication of Peer Reviewed Research Data in Economics

Subject Area Accounting and Finance
Economic Policy, Applied Economics
Term from 2015 to 2018
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 278201669

The project aims to develop and implement an interoperable Information Infrastructure for the publication of economic research data. A peer reviewed open access data journal for economic microdata (The "International Journal of Economic Microdata" (IJEMD)) will be designed as a use case. An open source environment for the reproduction and validation of research results that supports the specific requirements for the peer review process of research data will be created. The journal will publish three different kinds of articles:(1) Descriptions: Specifications of micro-data and descriptions of ways to access these data; Aim of this type of article is to make this data more visible and to stimulate the use of this data.(2) Replication studies: Short articles about replications of research articles.(3) Research articles: Scientific articles based on the use of economic micro-data; Usually economic micro data are very sensitive and can not be shared with others. To foster the replication of these works the syntax/code and programs will be published in a data archive.Especially the publication of pure replication studies are very rare in economics today. The "International Journal of Economics Micro Data" will be the first journal for the publication of this kind of studies and will therefore be able to close this gap. Moreover the journal format creates an incentive to execute more replication studies. The implementation of the technical platform and the development of the data journal creates an attractive publication opportunity for economic research data, because the authors can be honored in due form of citations and reputation. The peer review publication platform for reproducible research will complement the existing repository landscape for research data.
