Zusammenfassung der Projektergebnisse

In summary, between August 2016 and August 2022 our Emmy Noether group performed diverse theoretical investigations of quantum fluids and crystals with a special emphasis on low-dimensional systems. We developed low-energy effective field theories of two-dimensional chiral p + ip superfluids and vortex crystals and extracted universal low-energy quantities from these theories. Our research on chiral superfluids motivated us to undertake investigations of the lattice problem, where single-component fermions are coupled to the discrete Ising Z2 dynamical gauge field. This turned out to be an extremely fruitful and timely research direction which allowed us to uncover several unexpected and novel results about the interplay of dynamical gauge field with quantum matter. In addition to these main studies, we (i) advanced the understanding of nodal structures in the band theory by investigating the Weyl nodal surfaces; (ii) made some progress towards better understanding of topological order in two-dimensional superconductors; (iii) uncovered surprising physics of the elastic edge waves in crystals with Lorentz forces; (iv) found emergent fragmentation and integrable transport in quantum dynamics of the weakly-tilted Ising chain. Our investigations of these emergent phenomena in quantum matter were filled with excitement, determination and joy.
