Mixed Feelings – Shared Feelings. Narratives of Belonging in Contemporary Transcultural German-language Literature (A03)
Subject Area
German Literary and Cultural Studies (Modern German Literature)
Term
from 2015 to 2023
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 258523721
The literary studies project sets out to analyze the articulation of belonging in contemporary Berlin-literature and conceptualizes it as critical involvements with and reflections on the plurality of affective societies. The project's central questions concern how belonging and non-belonging are enacted affectively, and how they are intertwined with the historical city-scape, which is shaped by various processes of migration. The aim is to show how Berlin-literature produces a topography of feeling, how the city's ongoing change since the 1980s stands in relation to the 'mixed and shared feelings' of literature, and how the city as an actor herself shapes these literary texts.
