Zusammenfassung der Projektergebnisse

This project is devoted to the study of magnetization dynamics induced by pure spin currents generated by nonlocal spin injection mechanism. In particular, we study the possibilities to excite microwave-frequency magnetic oscillations and propagating spin waves in nano-devices driven by dc currents. This approach is particularly important for the emerging field of magnonics, considering utilization of spin waves for energy-efficient nano-scale transmission and processing of information. The main achievement of the project is the first demonstration of the excitation of coherent propagating spin waves by pure spin currents in conductive and insulating magnetic materials, which creates essentially new possibilities for magnonics. It provides a route to address one of the main challenges in this field – implementation of power-efficient conversion of electric signals into spin waves. In particular, magnonic devices utilizing the approaches elaborated within this project, do not require external microwave sources. Instead, the microwave-frequency signals can now be generated directly in the magnonic nano-device. Additionally, the demonstrated spin currentdriven excitation mechanisms are free from the limitations typical for the linear inductive excitation technique, which does not allow one to efficiently excite spin waves with wavelengths smaller than the lateral size of the emitter. Therefore, they can be utilized in devices operating in the sub- 100 nm regime, which is crucial for the possibility of further device miniaturization.
