Final Report Abstract
Our working hypothesis derived from the structure and activity of the Ebola virus GP2 that palmitoylation of membrane proteins could serve deformation and branching of cellular plasma membranes led us to systematically data mine and screen for candidate proteins with such functions. After having come up with around 20 candidate membrane proteins two of these proteins formed protrusion from the PM when overexpressed, but no notable branching was observed. Our results let us abandon our original hypothesis and lead us to further investigate the mechanisms underlying membrane deformation by Ebola GP2, specifically a role of actin in the process as well as potential signalling pathways.
