FID4SA - Scientific Information Services South Asia

In recent funding periods, the Specialised Information Service South Asia - FID4SA has continuously developed into an efficient and reliable information infrastructure and service facility with high relevance for the South Asian studies and Indology community. The service portfolio is to be further consolidated and optimised in the coming funding period. The focus will be on linking the collection, identification and indexing of literature and sources through digital services with the most direct access possible. In addition, the FID promotes and supports digital research and publication practice by offering services tailored to the scholarly community. In this way, the FID4SA makes an active contribution to Open Science by providing publication solutions. All of the services accessible via the FID4SA portal, which are unique in this form, complement basic services in the area of research and teaching and thus create optimal and sustainable conditions for the entire research cycle in South Asian studies and Indology. Following the developmental work of the previous funding periods, in the fourth funding phase the FID will concentrate on the systematic consolidation and optimisation of the value-added services that have been established, addressing the specific needs of South Asian research. In fulfilling these tasks, the FID is in close contact with the academic community, the overall FID system and other information infrastructures, such as the NFDI or the Competence Centre for Licensing (KfL). On the basis of the consolidation process agreed with the Advisory Board, the FID is working on five core tasks in its fourth funding phase, each of which contains sustainable services that are needed by the specialist community and are unique in Germany: 1. collection development and supra-regional provision of information resources, 2. FID4SA portal - improvement of usability and presentation of portal content, 3. services for open access publications, 4. data room for South Asian Studies - sustainability for excellent specialised information, 5. communication and cooperation.
