Dynamic Nankai Trough (Japan) & Middle America Trench (Costa Rica) Sediment Triaxial Experiments
Zusammenfassung der Projektergebnisse
In summary, we made a few substantial steps forward within the 12 months of engineering, programming and testing on the DTTD. In particular the initial problems associated with benchmark testing and cell modification prior to the establishment of lateral dynamic control seemed resolvable and could in deed be fixed within the first stage. Still, from hindsight, it appears as if what we proposed to achieve in the DYNAMITE project was extremely optimistic and ambitious. We hoped to have the lateral cyclic control established within a year to then run natural samples continuously from the end of year 1 through year 2. This was not quite achieved, however, we were close to fulfilling all tasks listed for the initial year. The overall complexity of this low-cost project suggested to the PI that the task is unsuitable for a PhD candidate. Hence, DYNAMITE was discontinued. Instead, an experienced post-doc teamed up with an engineer and established a few more items towards a truly dynamic lateral pressure control.
