Project Details
Functional regulation of the mitochondrial presequence translocation complex (P12)
Subject Area
Biochemistry
Term
from 2016 to 2020
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 264061860
Over half of the proteins of a eukaryotic cell have to cross at least one membrane to reach their designated localization. In virtually all cellular membranes protein translocation machineries have been identified that either transport proteins across a membrane or facilitate their insertion into a particular membrane. At the heart of many of these translocation machineries protein conducting pores have been found that mediate import, export and membrane insertion. This project focuses on the molecular characterization of two protein conducting pores within the TIM23 and the Hrd1 complexes, that cover all three mentioned protein transport pathways.
