Zusammenfassung der Projektergebnisse

The overall objective of this project had been the elucidation of unidentified factors which may drive excessive aldosterone production. 1) We have demonstrated that autoantibodies exist in patients with PA which activate the AT1R and are associated with inappropriate aldosterone production in patients with elevated AT1R‐Ab levels. Therefore, AT1R‐Abs may contribute to the pathophysiology of PA in a subset of patients. 2) We show that patients with macroprolactinomas are present at a higher than expected incidence in patients with PA and that prolactin stimulates aldosterone synthase gene expression and aldosterone production in human adrenocortical cells.
