Project A1 establishes theoretical foundations for understanding and explaining transformations. A special attention is devoted to middle range theories and reflections on the paradigm foundations of archaeological concepts. Alongside the reflective philosophical work, by incorporating ethnoarchaeological methods and data, the work will be directed towards synthesizing and recursive reflection on patterns, narratives and analogical inference, as the research scope of the CRC 1266 is widened in the Phase 2 and pattern recognition becomes a major aim. Project A1 will continue the close collabora-tion with Project A2 and the empirical case studies from clusters B-F.
