Climate Constraints of Western Mediterranean socio-environmental transformation and potential implications for central Europe (F01)

Project F1 aims to disentangle complex socio-environmental processes of transformations and the role of abrupt climate change for socio-environmental crises with the 4.2 ka BP event in the western Mediterranean region. Analyses of marine and terrestrial climate archives will be used to reconstruct climatic changes, i.e. precipitation and temperature with quantitative climate proxies. The investigation of material culture through the compilation and analysis of archaeological data guarantees socio-cultural explanatory models. In Phase 2 the study will be widened to the French Mediterranean region and focus on the comparison between areas from both project phases.
