Dynamics of plant economies in ancient societies (F03)
Subject Area
Prehistory and World Archaeology
Term
from 2016 to 2024
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 290391021
Project F3 investigates developments and changes in prehistoric plant production that were influenced by, or served as triggers for, cultural and environmental transformations. The multi-proxy approach combines archaeobotany, plant stable isotope analysis and radiocarbon dating of plant re-mains, and is supplemented by previously published ethnographic and experimental data. Diversifica-tion of the spectrum of cultivars and cultivation practices is observed at different spatial scales and this will, in Phase 2, be explored through the recognition of patterns in the multiple datasets. The research scope will be expanded to include investigations of past food preparation and consumption practices.
