Project Details
Host and bacterial factors driving chronic Salmonella infections (A08)
Subject Area
Medical Microbiology and Mycology, Hygiene, Molecular Infection Biology
Term
from 2016 to 2022
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 158989968
Chronic infections in humans caused by Salmonella enterica serovars cause major problems worldwide. Mechanisms that lead to persistence of Salmonella are incompletely understood. In this project we aim to identify the host and bacterial factors that lead to persistent infections with Salmonella. We focus on the role of host matrix metalloproteinase 10 and Salmonella pathogenicity island-1 effectors in persistence.
