Dissipative dynamics of strongly interacting, optically driven Rydberg systems (B02)

Subject Area Optics, Quantum Optics and Physics of Atoms, Molecules and Plasmas
Term since 2016
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 277625399

Project B2 studies in an experiment-theory collaboration the interplay between decoherence and interaction in different transport processes utilizing Rydberg atoms. We will study percolation-type transport in a dephasing-dominated, driven spin model with zz interactions, realized by a facilitated Rydberg gas. Here we want to understand the role of heterogeneity effects on the universal properties of self-organized criticality and extend facilitation from a dephasing-dominated to a coherence-dominated realm. Furthermore we will study resonant dipole-mediated xy-type excitation transport in open systems, relevant, e.g., for energy transport in molecular systems and light harvesting complexes.
