The project analyses East Asian examination cultures, focusing on Confucian Academies in China and Korea. Examinations and other forms of knowledge evaluation provide an important testimony that helps identify different modes of knowledge transfer in premodern East Asian societies. The project will concentrate on transformations and reconfigurations of knowledge during examination processes, focusing on ritual aspects, institutional settings and the existing textual canon.
