Femtosecond surface plasmon polariton (SPP) pulses are used to create strong electronic non-equilibrium situations which are investigated by pump-probe photoemission electron microscopy (PEEM). Angle-resolved plasmoemission spectroscopy (ARPLES) will be used to investigate the influence of strong SPP fields. The method of “vector microscopy” will be applied to retrieve the full SPP field at the surface and to observe nonlinear effects in the propagation of strong SPP pulses.
