Elementary steps of energy conversion during and subsequent to a strong non-equilibrium excitation in correlated materials (B07)

Subject Area Experimental Condensed Matter Physics
Term since 2016
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 217133147

In project B07, in a combined experimental and theoretical effort, light-engineering of quantum materials via electromagnetic dressing is studied to control the material´s energy spectrum, the phase, and accordingly its quasiparticle lifetime and dissipation processes. From the experimental side, we will use our novel time- and angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy (trARPES) setup, namely femtosecond momentum microscopy, to directly visualize the impact of strong non-equilibrium excitations on band-structure renormalizations and population dynamics. Theoretical modelling of band-structure engineering by light (also termed Floquet Bloch engineering) in this project will be done within the fTWA (fermionic truncated Wigner approximation) framework.
