Spectral analysis of the secondary in the AA Dor system with PHOENIX/3D

Subject Area Astrophysics and Astronomy
Term from 2016 to 2022
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 319856396

This project's goal is to compute full 3D radiative transfer models of the irradiated atmosphere of the low mass secondary of the AA Dor post common envelope binary system. There are many high quality observations of this system, e.g., with UVES and XSHOOTER. The primary is a sdO star with an effective temperature of 42000K which irradiates and strongly heats the day-side of the close by secondary, whereas the night-side remains at low temperature. In a previous project we have computed new 1.5D "patchwork'' models with improved micro-physics (spectral lines and dust data, equation of state, NLTE). These models will be combined in this project with our 3D radiative transfer simulations to generate phase-dependent spatially resolved spectro-images and spectra of the AA Dor secondary and the system as a unit. The results will be compared with the existing observed data and used to analyse the spectra.
